Privacy Policy for LeXpand
Last Updated: June 3, 2026
LeXpand ("we", "us", or "our") is a local-first browser text expansion extension for Chrome and Edge. This Privacy Policy explains what data the extension processes, where that data is stored, and how optional Google Drive sync works.
1. Local-First Data Model
User-Generated Content
LeXpand lets you create trigger phrases and snippets, including rich text snippets, folders, settings, and insertion helpers such as cursor placement, highlighted text markers, and the optional {clipboard} placeholder. This content is stored locally on your device using the browser's extension storage unless you choose to enable sync.
We do not operate a LeXpand account system or a LeXpand server that stores your snippets. We, the developers, do not have access to your snippets, shortcuts, folders, settings, clipboard contents, or expansion history.
Text Fields and Page Interaction
LeXpand runs in browser pages so it can detect your trigger phrases in editable fields and replace them with your saved snippets. This processing happens locally in your browser. Page text and field contents are not sent to us.
Clipboard Placeholder
If a snippet contains the {clipboard} placeholder, LeXpand reads your clipboard only at the time that snippet is expanded so it can insert the clipboard value into the expansion. Clipboard contents are not collected by us and are not synced unless you deliberately save them into a snippet or other extension data.
2. Personal Information
We do not collect, store, sell, or use your personal information on developer-operated servers.
- Optional Google Account Identity: When you enable Google Drive Sync, the extension may access the Google account information needed to authenticate and show connection status.
- No Developer Transmission: Google account identity information is used locally for authentication and sync status. We do not receive or store your email address or profile information on our own servers.
3. Google Drive Sync (Optional)
Google Drive Sync is optional. If you enable it, LeXpand requests access to the Google Drive application data folder for LeXpand.
- What LeXpand accesses: LeXpand uses Google's application data folder, also known as
appDataFolderorappData, for LeXpand-specific sync data. - What LeXpand does not access: LeXpand does not request broad access to your general Google Drive files, documents, photos, or visible Drive folders.
- Why LeXpand accesses it: The access is used to keep your LeXpand snippets, folders, settings, and related extension data available across your own signed-in browsers.
- Where synced data stays: Synced data is stored in your own Google account through Google's Drive infrastructure. It is not stored on LeXpand-operated servers.
4. Browser Permissions
- Storage: Used to save snippets, folders, settings, and related extension data locally.
- Page access for expansion: Used to detect trigger phrases and insert snippets in editable browser fields.
- clipboardRead: Used only when a snippet contains the
{clipboard}placeholder. - Identity: Used to authenticate with Google when you enable optional Google Drive Sync.
- Alarms: Used to trigger periodic background syncs if Sync is enabled.
5. Store Distribution and Third Parties
LeXpand is distributed through the Chrome Web Store and Microsoft Edge Add-ons. Those marketplaces, Google Drive, Chrome, Edge, and related browser or account services may process data under their own privacy policies and terms. This policy covers LeXpand's extension behavior and developer-operated services, not data handled independently by those third-party platforms.
6. Data Disclosure
We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise transfer your LeXpand data to outside parties. Your LeXpand data remains on your device unless you enable optional Google Drive Sync, in which case it is stored in your private Google Drive application data folder.
7. User Controls and Deletion
You can edit or delete your snippets, folders, and settings in the extension. You can also disable sync if you no longer want LeXpand to use Google Drive. Browser-managed extension data and Google Drive application data are controlled through your browser and Google account settings.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page and update the "Last Updated" date above.
